"Hard to believe this year is the 20th anniversary of Five Times August’s “Fry Street” album. This was FTA’s first full length “studio” album, although it wasn’t actually recorded in a studio, but a run down house we were living in located off of Fry Street in Denton, TX. Every song on the album was eventually licensed to various tv shows, commercials, and indie films. Those placements helped build a decent following online, and FTA became the number one unsigned artist on Myspace back then, which opened the door to touring a bunch college campuses for a number of years. By 2007 I had reissued the album with new artwork and re-titled it “The Independent.” It was actually the first album by a completely unsigned artist to be distributed and sold in Walmart stores! Time flies."
